Setting up a Roleplay

First things first, you've got to come up with a good plot. Something a little deeper then "the characters meet and then have a drink at a bar", y'know? Maybe more like, "The world has been consumed by evil, and those who resist its might, are captured, tortured, and then sent into the ring, to battle to the death with the other captives". Annnd, that gives you a basic setting too!

Next would be to make a short story out of our one sentence. It technically doesn't have to be story, but it makes it a lot easier to play if it is. A few paragraphs will do.

Now, we have to focus on your character(s). If you're the one that started the RP, is generally not a good idea to make your character the superhero, or the damsel with all this hidden power. For one, it doesn't make a in depth character, and for two, you're the GM. You're supposed to keep everyone else on track, and having an uber important character, or uber strong character will probably end up distracting you, if all the other players are relying on them.

So, what does make a good character? First, I highly suggest including a character sheet template. You can make one by using the "code" button (the little pound button), and then typing in what you want the other players to fill out.

You can choose pretty much anything to write in there, but for beginners, I highly suggest you stick with Name, Age, Appearance, Height, Weight, and Powers/Weapons, if its needed. Advanced sheets would look more like this:

Background: Growing up, Andy was quite the sheltered child. He relied intensely on his parents, but they seemed to prefer it that way. He was too terrified to ever wander more then five feet or so away from them, and never ventured beyond the house's front porch. As he grew older, he developed several different social phobias, and generally would stay by himself. He had many "imaginary" friends to keep him comforted though. And in his pocket, he'd always carry a photo of his family, and his late dog. Because of his recluse nature, some suspect he was more vulnerable to the influences of a vampire. By the time he was 17, he was fully enthralled by the vampire, Ondrai (stage 1; Ondrai found him at 16). Ondrai has been trying to rush the process, since he may have only months left before it is too late.
Home country/state/province: "United" States of America (the country is no longer called United).
Nationality: Unknown
Occupation (former or current): Unknown
Family: Disowned by his family. His Lycanthrope status is considered a disgrace.
Marital Status: Single (and guessing by his master, will stay that way). Gay.
Personality: A recluse. Passive, weak, but hollow. Events pass by him with no reaction or outward acknowledgment.
ETC: His master is sympathetic to humans, and extremely attracted and attached to Andy (or Setome as he is known to the Vampires). Setome is his inductee Vampire name.

Granted, the bio is rather short, but I was lazy. Generally, if the RP's creator wants you to give a biography, its best to do too much, then too little. That way other players become accustomed to your character, and know what to expect. Even if your character is highly secretive, it doesn't mean you can't do a bio. Its the players that know him/her, not the characters.

When you actually get enough players to RP (which for public RPs is generally 3-6), you can finally RP. I like playing Advanced RPs, so I would suggest writing at least a paragraph per post (dialogue is not included). Try to keep on track. If you have to have side chat, use something to identify as different from your post. Like using [[ ]] or (( )) around the side chat.

A usual post from me looks something like this:
"The slow procession moved in a wave moaning children, disorder running wild among the soldiers' ranks. Never expected to be ambushed, Judith thought with a smile. He watched as the cat scrambled through the soldiers, scratching at faces, and screaming, such screaming! All screamed; Cat, Man, and Child. Only Judith remained silent, with a malicious grin pasted to his face.

" 'O great lord, save me from the beasts!' Bah! Your god won't save you now." Judith shouted, rising up from the wooden thatch of the abandoned hut. "In fact, your god never would have saved you! Ha-ha! Cry for him all you want. No one will come."

A few of the soldiers who weren't completely blinded now, yanked out swords, spears, and bows, in the attempt to silence this heretic. But some lost their mind, or fear consumed them like the others, when they saw the sacreligious preacher's eyes. Undying hate lurked within the liquid black eyes.

"You there! Get down, and face me like a man!" shouted one of the recovering soldiers. Judith giggled.

"Surely, you lie. Since what year did men start fighting with fists, and not mere hate and oppression?" Judith asked with mock sincerity, hopping off the hut. Several of the soldiers near him, took a step back. "How in insanity, did I miss that Milestone on intelligent life? Oh yes, I can't say intelligent life! Humans are the only intelligent life; to assume otherwise is to be heresy. Yes, yes, how silly of me."

Judith lunged forward, eyes closed, just as the man prepared to take Judith's head off. The screams rose to head-splitting octane." This post is from my RP, Fell Through. No, your posts don't have to be nearly that long; this one is short compared to another player's on Fell Through. Seriously. ._.

I suppose this is all I can teach of the basics, for now. I'm open for RPing with the newbies, if they want help. Just PM me.
